How to Rip DVD to NAS? Why I say Rip but not Copy DVD to NAS?

Outline: DVDs can take up enormous amounts of space, so why not copy your DVDs to NAS for streaming? Today, Hivimoore tells you How to Rip DVD to NAS with original quality for copying or streaming, but not direcrly Copy DVD to NAS.

Have you a lot of older DVDs sitting around in your house’s corner? You might be wondering if there was a way to rip your favorite DVDs to a digital format, then store the ripped DVD on your NAS(network attached storage device) and watch them on your TV via a media streamer such as a WD TV Live Hub, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, etc. Even just getting rid of using a DVD player.

Now, Problem comes, right? You need to consider how to rip DVD to NAS. Here, we say rip DVDs to NAS, not copy DVDs to NAS. Why?

Why Can’t You Copy DVDs to NAS Normally?

Almost all DVD movies are encrypted with CSS copy protection. Decryption keys are stored in the normally inaccessible lead-in area of the disc. You’ll usually get an error if you try to copy the contents of an encrypted DVD to NAS. However, if you have used a software player to play the movie, it will have authenticated the disc in the drive, allowing you to copy without error, while the encryption keys will not be copied. If you try to play the copied VOB files, the decoder will request the keys from the DVD-ROM drive and you will fail to copy with an error message “Cannot play copy-protected files”. So you need a professional yet safe DVD ripper.

Thankfully, there’s plenty of DVD Ripper softwares available to do just that. Aimersoft DVD ripper application is a handsome piece of software, it has the ability to decrypt DVDs, remove copy preventions, and make disks unrestricted and region-free. The program excels at making its programs both intuitive to the new user and powerful enough to meet the demands of the expert client. It yields excellent video/audio quality, fast ripping speed and very stable. It doesn’t take more than a few minutes for users of any skill level to discern how this program works. All you need to do is load up a disc, set your output parameters and click Start.

Has the equivalent Mac version which supports OS X El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, etc.

Now it’s worth noting that technically it’s illegal to rip DVDs because of copyright protection, but the MPAA probably won’t be suing you unless you sell or distribute the ripped DVDs. As long as you  legally purchased and keep them to yourself, you shouldn’t have to worry about any legal issues, you’re not doing anything wrong.

Another issue to take note of is that some DVD drives have encryption protection on the drive itself and therefore can’t be circumvented by any kind of software. In those types of cases, you’ll need to get an older DVD drive that doesn’t have that type of built-in copyright protection.

Now, you can get the professional DVD to NAS Ripper to work. Free download Aimersoft DVD Ripper, install and open this software on your PC.
